How the park came to be
Sanjay National Park was created in 1981; it once included forests that are now Guru Ghasidas National Park in Chhattisgarh. Joined with the Dubri Wildlife Sanctuary, it was declared Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve in 2006.
Gaur, which had disappeared from the area in 1997, were reintroduced in 2023. The reserve sits in the same landscape as Bandhavgarh, and tigers move between the two.
